The Death of Roy's Childhood

So I am back with some meta on my best boy, Roy. Mainly, I want to talk about how Friede's death forced him to grow up, because it's something I've been thinking about. (esp. while helping a friend brainstorm a fic she is writing <3)

The first thing I want to emphasize, because I feel like everything else stems from it is Roy had to grow up because suddenly there were no adults around to solve his problems. Let's assume he gets dropped off by the Brave Olivine on his home island, and he's there for maybe a few days before he decides to leave.

He leaves and suddenly realizes he is responsible for:

Money.
Shelter.
Medical care, basic supplies, food etc for his mons.
Fixing things if something happens. (Remember that time he and Friede got scammed over a cloth or the other time Tepen robbed him?)
Coming up with a strategy for times when he doesn't have reception and can't FaceTime Dot. (not that he wasn't doing that before, but Dot kind of was and has continued to occasionally strategize for bigger battles which I LOVE)
He also eventually has to deal with Ult, who is kind of a raging bull in a China shop that I think Roy feels responsible for even if he drives Roy bananas lol.

I'm really excited with how all this is gong to shake down it later episodes! is Roy going to feel a little angry at Friede for not being there when he needed him? For not coming back sooner and taking the burden of growing up off his shoulders faster? I guess time will tell!

Usually I'd want these round ups to be something monthly and not once every three months but I had surgery in January so... Yeah lol

As Sweet as Chocolate-- a Valentine's Day Royko fanfic in witch Roy is trying to find Liko the perfect Valentine's sweet to show he cares. Maaaaaaybe he should have just gotten a card?

The Enemy of my Enemy... Actually Can be my Friend? My first ever Amethio fanfic. I love him so much. Don't think that just because I like Royko I hate Amethio. FAR from it. :D Probably mean of me, but I was WAY too eager to write something torturing him out in the words lol.

Previously Unspoken Truths--It's time for Diana to finally tell Lucca who her father is, after thinking she would never have to. It doesn't go well.

Charcadet Vs Crocalor! Royko. Roy is eager to help Liko train her new pokemon... But it'd also be a lie if he just didn't straight up want to impress Liko.

Coming up in April:

Upcoming in the 1st half of April: Diana is at the Crystal Pool seeking information from the dead, but someone else is there too...

Later in April: Diana shouldn't want to trust Hamber... And yet her heart really wants her to.

I currently write fanfiction for Pokemon Horizons. I might try posting updates here about my fic and joining some challenges. Used to write for Dragon Age, may write it again someday but am currently burned out.

I don't like to put myself in boxes as to what I write for HZ, but I do write a lot of Liko/Roy, Orla/Karna, Diana/Hamber.I also love gen fics. :D

I will not follow you back if you are a minor or if you are posting spoilers for Pokemon Horizons where the show is at in Japan. This is not personal, I just don't want to be spoiled. I may be up for a compromise if you can find a way to block/tag spoilers so I don't see them.

I was going to be a librarian pre-COVID so I am pretty anti-censorship and tend to live and let live as far as whatever you're doing unless you are not harassing me/others, in which case obviously I block people.

In the name of transparency, I did grow up as a HP fan, but I have distanced myself from that fandom in more recent years/don't see it coming up here. But as it feel like it is better to be open about things than to hide them, I am bringing it up now so people don't find out by looking at my AO3 and end up feeling lied to or some unneeded drama. I don't know how tagging things works here but if it DID come up (promoting a fic for an event?) I would tag it or do whatever to limit it on people's feeds, or just make a whole separate account for it.
